Warning: I might be a dick here.
I don't think my photography is good. Not near good. But it annoys the he'll out of me when I see someone taking pictures with a cell phone and calling themselves photographers. I mean, take this for example.
This isn't photography, this is an exercise in Photoshop!
Ugh, people. I've had a bad day. Can you tell?
Now THIS is photography. Credit to our very own TwinTurboBMW

I hate ugly watermarks the most. I don't mind that you put a watermark on your picture, but jesus, at least make it look good. Example of a great watermark:

Don't try to do it professionally. This goes for anything art-related. It is absolutely painful.
99% of everything out there is crap. This includes your own work. Most people don't understand that their shit ain't special, and don't know enough to know what's good and what isn't.

There's just as many people out there who get an SLR and suddenly fancy themselves a professional photographer. Which is why professional photographers have such a hard time making a living unless they work for a big organization.
So many people decide, "oh I don't need to pay a real pro photographer for my wedding, my friend with a Canon Rebel and the kit zoom lens who puts his Blahbityblahblah Photography watermark on blurry-background photos on facebook can do it just fine."

This pic is so good, I can tell there is a 240Z in the background.

twinturbobmw is the most amazing car photographer I've ever seen. And he's only 14.

Just remember, even a neat filter will only make a bad photo look like a bad photo with an effect on it. Best to skip the fancy filters and make a good image to start with.

Thanks! I'm not a fan of big, bright watermarks, so I decided to make mine super simple and not stand out.

I have seen countless photos on Facebook/Instagram on "Photography" pages that claim they are amazing, but are mainly grainy iPhone shots with at least 20 filters on them. A completely unedited shot with good composition is miles better than stuff like that.

My mind is so far in the gutter, there's no hope. Thought that said "Dildobreath photography."

I think his composition is OK, just needs to ease up on the filters. His choice of equipment isn't remotely advanced, but he could do worse composition-wise. I hope he learns.

Used to be this, to be honest. Even now I can't do too well without an SLR, that or it's just a learning curve for the X100

This is why I can't get media passes for events. Too many people, sometimes with nicer cameras than me, think they're pros since they have a DSLR. I know many people who deserve to be more well known in the photography world, but can't because there are too many amateurs that posts their photos everywhere.

Well, I see you point. But I started out taking photos with my iPhone then upgraded to a DSLR. If there is raw talent, the camera doesnt matter. Good photography is 50% Skill, 25% equipment and 25% Editing. If the editing of a photo is its best feature, then yes it is crap. Here are some if my shots:
I took this with my iPhone 5 over a year ago, it is 100% Unedited:
I took this with my Nikon D3100 Recently, It too is 100% Unedited:
If you have skill, the camera doesnt matter. But it bothers me when any old shmo says "I'm a photographer" because he has a camera phone and Photoshop.

Just messed with the exposure and contrast a tiny bit

Just as good! Not intrusive, so that people at the picture don't even notice it at first.

twinturbobmw is amazing.
On the other hand, the guy this rant is about just needs to lay off the filters/effects. Someone else said his composition isn't bad, and I agree. Also, in the Facebook screenshot, those are just the thumbnail pictures, I'd bet that the actual pictures is sized/cropped differently. And hopefully look better.

No, the pictures I posted below are the full things. Yep, he considers himself a photographer and crops his shit square.

The best camera you have is the one that you have with you. I have two DSLR's but practically never have them with me. They are saved for racing events and or when I have a plan for shooting trains, planes etc. That said, the thing that annoys me is when someone gets Flickr explore for shots from Forza or Gran Turismo, thats not photography at all.

Well he's definitely not a pro photographer. I really hope he figures out how to crop other ways. and lays off the filters and effects. he does take photographs, so technically he could he considered a photographer. But he's got a long way too go before he could be considered a good one. At least he's trying.

I'm guilty of many a misplaced watermark over the years...I've gotten better. Especially when I'm just batching thing to put on facebook and here. But yeah, a lot of people get a little carried away with the sliders on instagram and call it good.
I'm not a pro, but it's an expensive hobby, and I've sold a couple prints. I've got a wall and binders full of autographed prints of race shots that I've taken - again, as a hobby. I dig it from a memorabilia aspect.
That being said, after some discussion and submitting some shots, I'm scheduled to go play professional photographer for a weekend next year for a reasonably big agency. So, that's kind of cool. Even if I don't get published, I'll get to have legitimate credentials, and be out shooting.
